| Abstract (English): | The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes that aerosol-generating procedures represent an increased hazard of transmitting the new coronavirus to healthcare professionals. In dentistry, the frequent use of aerosol-generating devices represent a potential risk to occupational health. As a result, several publications have recommended the postponement of elective dentistry procedures during the outbreak of COVID-19 in order to reduce the chance of contamination. Because of this, we have seen an effort by the academic community to orient dental surgeons on the new biosafety guidelines during care, however, a gap remains to be filled about the care for handling the aerosol produced. Considering that the time for the purification of aerosols, it impacts the risk of cross-infection and the organization of dental appointments, we intend to analyze some aspects that directly interfere in the definition of the time necessary for the purification of the aerosols produced. |

| Abstract (Spanish/Portuguese) : | A Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) reconhece que os procedimentos geradores de aerossóis representam um risco aumentado de transmissão do novo coronavírus aos profissionais de saúde. Na odontologia, o uso frequente de dispositivos geradores de aerossóis representa um risco potencial à saúde ocupacional. Como resultado, várias publicações recomendaram o adiamento dos procedimentos odontológicos eletivos durante o surto de COVID-19, a fim de reduzir a chance de contaminação. Por esse motivo, vimos um esforço da comunidade acadêmica para orientar os cirurgiões-dentistas sobre as novas diretrizes de biossegurança durante o atendimento; no entanto, resta uma lacuna a ser preenchida sobre os cuidados com o manuseio do aerossol produzido. Considerando que o tempo para a depuração dos aerossóis afeta o risco de infecção cruzada e a organização das consultas odontológicas, pretendemos analisar alguns aspectos que interferem diretamente na definição do tempo necessário para a depuraçãodos aerossóis produzidos. |
