| Abstract (English): | Introduction: Potentially inappropriate medications for older persons (PIM) cause more adverse effects than benefits. The Beers AGS 2019 Criteria (CB2019) considered five clinical situations as PIM. Can an analysis of medications for these clinical situations assist in prescribing the elderly? Looking for a practical example of this issue, we opted for the analysis of drugs currently questioned about safe use in older persons. Objective: To verify if Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine fit as PIM and if this analysis is clinically applicable. Methods: Systematizing the objective by the five clinical situations defined as PIM by CB2019. Results: Both fill four (Chloroquine) and five (Hydroxychloroquine) respectively from these clinical situations. This analysis allowed the probable definition of PIM for these drugs in a simple way through a brief analysis of accessible literature. Conclusion: Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine can be considered PIM. It is expected to replicate this analysis for other medications and to reduce iatrogenesis. |

| Abstract (Spanish/Portuguese) : | Medicamentos potencialmente inapropriados a idosos (MPII) provocam mais efeitos adversos do que benefícios. Os Critérios de Beers (CB) AGS 2019 (CB2019) consideraram cinco situações clínicas como MPII. A análise de medicamentos por essas situações clínicas podem auxiliar na prescrição a idosos? Procurando exemplo prático dessa questão, optou-se por análise de fármacos atualmente questionados sobre uso seguro em idosos. Objetivo: Verificar se Cloroquina e Hidroxicloroquina enquadram-se como MPII e se esta análise é aplicável clinicamente. Metodologia: Sistematizando-se o objetivo pelas cinco situações clínicas definidas como MPII pelos CB2019. Resultados: Ambos preenchem respectivamente quatro (Cloroquina) e cinco (Hidroxicloroquina) dessas situações clínicas. Esta análise permitiu a provável definição de MPII para esses medicamentos de forma simples por intermédio de breve análise de literatura acessível. Conclusão: Cloroquina e Hidroxicloroquina podem ser considerados MPII. Espera-se replicar essa análise para outros medicamentos e reduzir iatrogenias em idosos. |
